oil on thick masonite - 5 x 15 inches
painted on location - Fri 30 May 2014
SOLD
Yes ladies and gentlemen, right here in my dunes, are some of the finest views a painter can ask for! Fortunately for me, I don't have to take a flight or a train. Just a matter of loading up my gear, parking my car for FREE, and a meditative walk through the dunes. I was visiting the owner of Pier 32, talking about painting possibilities. On the way back was struck by this view, I couldn't resist! A small panoramic study, works well, for sure will make a large painting of this same view.

The conversation
oil on canvas ~ 9 x 11 inches
painted on location, Tuesday 13 May 2014
$ 445
A lovely sunny afternoon, still quite windy and somewhat chilly, here on the coast of the North Sea. However these two girls found that by setting low, the wind passes over them, thus the warmth of the Sun has a soothing feel.

The Yellow Buoy and You
oil on canvas - 70 x 50 cm
painted on location - Fri 21 Feb 2014
$ 650
Picture yourself walking on this quite strip of beach. You alone, far away from the noisy crowds in the bustling city centre. Very far away from those busy roadways, were traffic jams are guaranteed during rush hour. Maybe you have a pet dog, that needs it's daily exercise, or maybe you just doing it for yourself, as these quality 'alone' times are definitely almost obligatory in life as we know it today! Whatever your situation, I make it my vocation to capture and record these special moments, on a piece of linen with oil colours, that not only you may enjoy and meditate upon, but whom ever takes the time to gaze and reflect upon it, also will.

Free the Mind
oil on canvas - 10 x 14 inches
painted on location - Scheveningen
SOLD
Don't have the time or possibility to get to the Sea. Allow me to bring it to you. Breath in that fresh salty air, allow it to rejuvenate your Spirit, loosen up those murky cobwebs hangin' about!..... Hard to believe that this was painted just two days ago on the beach here in Holland! Seems we have been spared the winter thus far. Early in the morning, when the light is just right, highlighting those waves rolling in. Creating a scene that would inspire goodness and well being, even to the most defiant ones. A gift from Mother Nature to you, and it is there for the taking.

After the Storm, South Beach, The Hague
oil on canvas - 20 x 39 inches
painted - Fri 10 Jan 2014
$900. (€675)
First plein - air painting of the new year, and am glad I had the chance to begin it with a bang, (loud, busy painting). I choose to stay close to the dunes, somewhat protected from the wind and besides the composition was just what I needed. With these conditions, rather difficult to work this size, outdoors on location. Was lucky could position my canvas in the direction of the wind, and had to anchor my gear down with a bag full of sand, thus got the job done!

Clouds with a rough sea
oil on canvas - 18 x 24 cm
Thurs 27 June 2013
SOLD
As Constable once said, "The sky governs everything," Of course he was referring to light and values of colour on a given landscape, or in my case, a seascape. With the sunlight breaking through the scattered voluminous clouds, the sea was giving off an intense deep hue of greenish blue. Not too many people on the beach, however kite surfers enough! I decided to keep it simple, thus providing a generic seascape with the least of elements to give it a reference.

Opa picking Dahlia's, near Zundert
oil on canvas board, 7 x 9.5 inches
Thurs 30 August 2012
$ 275
Not really my Grandfather, just a title to a painting! Again, a work made sometime ago now, however better to post it rather than leaving it on the shelf, as they say! Was active in Zundert, at the end of August for a few days, making paintings of the Dahlia flower fields with the pickers. They were getting the flowers ready to pin on the waggons that would be shown on the parade of the famous Bloemencorso, held annually at the end of August.

Coasting along the North Sea
Coasting along The North Sea
oil on 5 wooden panels, 6" x 20"
22 August 2012 SOLD
Inspired by the 2 mast sailboat, by chance, passing by while I was set up working on a larger peice (next posting), at Wassenaarseslag, I decided to quickly make this smaller format panoramic Seascape. Below is a close up where you can see the vessel splashing and being tossed about, by the waves. As it was rather close to the shoreline I managed to paint the flag and other details, usually not visible on the sailboats featured on most of my seascapes.

Beach Scene, Noordwijk, Holland
Beach scene with Noordwijk Sailing Clubhouse
oil on 3 wood panels,
6" x 12"
painted on location - Fri 18 May 2012
SOLD
Made on the 1st morning that I woke up in the hotel De Baak, on the boulevard in Noordwijk, while I was guest artist at the Opera Aan Zee 2012 event, this small format oil gives one a fairly good representation of typical cloudy Dutch skies. Low horizon line, bringing the viewer right up close to the scene painted.

Beach scene from Holland
Beach houses at Wijk Aan Zee
oil on wooden panel
4" x 6" - 10 x 15cm
painted on location - Sunday 6 May 2012 SOLD
Just a quick study of the situation that afternoon. Clouds racing by at speeds that made it impossible to work any larger than this. I don't beleive in taking pictures, then working fom them. You will most likely loose the essence of the subject at hand. And besides, we are painters after all is said and done, are we not?

Savoury Cumulus clouds, Texel, Holland
Cloudy beach scene, Texel, NL
oil on canvas
6" x 12" - 15 x 30 cm
painted on location, - Sat 10 April 2010
no longer exists, painted over
This little canvas although rather small in dimension, still manages to afford the viewer an emmense view of a solitary beach. Nature dominates in Il pittores vision, thus I choose to keep the crowds at bay. Those savoury cumulus clouds where casting shadows that literally swept by at a speed comparable to a gutsy BMW travelling on a German autobaan.

Windy Seascape study #4/ rainy conditions
oil on wooden panel
4" x 6" - (10 x 15cm)
painted on location - Monday 16 April 2012 SOLD
A very typical Dutch sky, this time of year. The rain was not that threatening as it would just drift by now and then. Lasting sometimes only half a minute or even less. Most painters find it difficult to paint clouds. Fact is they are shifting about and reshaping themselves constantly, thus I would recommend they tackle the situation on a small format, work quickly with one brush and have the colors on your palette ready.

Windy Seascape study #2/crashing waves
4.5" x 5.5" - (11 x 14 cm)
painted on location - Mon, 16 April 2012 SOLD
Simular to yesterdays posting, however on close observation you can see many differences. Composition the same, but here you have adition of tree tops of the high dunes. In these conditions the atmosphere is changing by the second, never mind by the minute! I think I'll do this more often, work simutaneously on more than one canvas.
